The following morning, I got in from work and was able to access the dashboard through the WordPress log-in straightaway.

When adding plug-ins, there were an awful lot of instructions in the book that related to uploading through an ftp client. However, things have clearly been updated a lot at WordPress since that section was originally written because, if you go into the plug-in menu in your admin panel and click ‘add new’, you can then search for any plug-ins that you require and install and activate them through the dashboard rather than having to download to your computer and then upload them to the domain.

So, following the rest of the instructions in Blogging To The Bank 2010, I changed the theme and set up the general tab, updated the ‘About’ tab and wrote the ‘Hello World’ post. Fiddled around with the sidebars so that it only showed ‘Pages’. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly. Then it was time to go to work so I switched everything off.

And, of course, that’s when the trouble started.

When I came back from work two hours later, I was unable to get into the WordPress admin panel. It kept telling me that my user name was not recognised.

But, worse was to come.

When I put in the blog url that I had spent all morning working on, it had reverted to the original site! All that work lost and I was left wondering if I was about to discover that I had been hoodwinked over the auction sale.

Fortunately, after a 15 minute phone call to GoDaddy, it transpired that I had not been the victim of any skullduggery… it was just that my mobile dongle was now receiving its signal from a different server which had not updated its cache yet.

This means that I can’t get into my site and do any more work until it does.

And, it gets better! When writing these posts, the flakey internet connection didn’t bother to save everything that I just typed so I’ve had to write most of it again.

Ever feel as if you were fighting against everything in order to get anything done?
